Hello and Welcome to Art Courses London

This year we are celebrating our 8th year!

We started small in 2013 with a few Life Drawing and Painting courses, but have since expanded with highly specialised Oil Glazing courses, including Old Masters techniques, in-depth Colour courses, whole day workshops as well as bespoke sessions for private and corporate clients, including Westminster University, The Gentlewoman magazine and Squint Opera. Our intensive one-to-one Art Portfolio preparation sessions have been met with resounding success, as have our private teens-and-parents classes.

We maintain our commitment to teaching small groups of no more than five students per course. This presents each of our students with a unique opportunity to develop and progress in their work and succeed in their personal aims and ambitions. Individual tuition from an experienced, award-winning professional artist and outstanding tutor is based on the specific needs of each student.

All classes take place in a well-lit artist studio with a panoramic view across London. They are informative and clear for beginners but challenging and stimulating for advanced practitioners. Students learn traditional and modern skills, explore personal interests and learn specialist techniques in painting and drawing. Continuous support and enthusiastic encouragement enable each student to build new skills and reinvigorate previous experience.

Courses are focused on practical, hands-on learning, creative thinking and prompting new approaches to familiar subjects. And they are fun too! We refer to art history and contemporary art practice to enrich learning and inspire a wide range of artistic approaches. You will pick up a bit of art history too!

As well as achieving great results on their courses, students exhibit and sell their work and have gone on to enrol on highly regarded art degree courses, including Central St Martins’ BA. They develop at their own pace and grow in confidence – something we are very proud of.

The tutor Stephen Nicholas is a John Moores prize-winning painter and Beacon award-winning art tutor with 25 years teaching experience in adult, further and higher education in London. In teaching, Stephen draws from his vast experience and knowledge of materials and painting techniques. You can see Stephen’s work at stephennicholas.org

We are based in Crystal Palace, 7 minutes’ walk from Crystal Palace or Gipsy Hill station.
