Service Description
Developing individual interests in the Studio. This course is for those who have already done a beginners painting course or equivalent and want to work in depth and choose their own subjects to develop and extend their acrylic and oil/watermixable oil painting abilities. We will focus on skills, ideas and a wide range of techniques. We will explore your use of composition and advanced colour relationships. This will broaden your ability in paint handling and how to use various paint mediums. The small group format offers the opportunity for varied individual approaches with in depth support, guidance and feedback. We will be referring you to artists’ works to expand your abilities and use influences constructively. Group support and sharing interests with each other is always encouraged. Covered: Colour theory Paint application techniques, fat over lean, impasto, glazing and more. Wet into wet blending techniques How to use painting mediums, linseed oil and others. Building up different degrees of opacity and transparency Organising your composition in your painting and developing background /foreground relationships, focal points, use of space and exploring subject matter ideas. Suggested Course materials. If you already have acrylics or oil paints, please feel free to use them. I suggest water mixable oils as they are more user friendly at home and do not require the use of solvents. Paints. 1 of below sets: Winsor & newton artisan water mixable oil colour studio set OR Winsor & newton artisan water mixable oil colour beginners set The large selection in colours in the studio set means you do not need to start adding colours, but the beginners set is good, and you can get individual tubes to add as you go. Medium. 1 of below: Cobra water mixable painting medium 75ml OR Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colour Paint Medium 75ml Brushes. Cass art hog bristle brush set of 6 or equivalent. Optional, but especially useful, 1 medium/large sized synthetic brush for smooth blending. You can also use a good wall brush for this. Painting surfaces. One of below. Daler Rowney: Georgian Oil: Pad 20 x 16in or any canvas paper OR canvas OR Palettes Mabef oval wooden palette 25x35 OR Daler Rowney tear-off palettes. Or any non-porous surface, a plate or grease proof paper taped to a hard surface.
