Service Description

This is an exciting opportunity to learn and apply colour theory in your paintings. Each week you will build confidence in the use of colour whilst being inspired by different artists and their techniques. You will gain a working knowledge of how colours are used in compositions. You will enrich and broaden your painting skills using pure and mixed colours to achieve form, depth and compositional variety. You will also gain skills and knowledge in using contrasting colour, triad colour schemes and split complementaries in your paintings. Only 5 students in the group allows for comprehensive and thorough teaching, support and one-to-one feedback. This course is suitable for experienced practitioners and beginners, and covers: Basic colour theory, using cool and warm contrasts in colour in compositions. Exploring the tactile and fluid quality of paint to achieve vibrant colour, colour tints and texture. Mixing neutral tones with colour to achieve a range of greys for shadows and mid tones. Colour impasto techniques. Using strong light and shadow relationships enabling you to use contrasting / complementary colours to achieve 3D effects. Planning a composition by exploring combinations of colour contrasts, colour opposites, and analogous colour schemes. Artists referred to include Vincent Van Gogh, Sonia Delauney, Henri Matisse, Chris Ofili, Bridget Riley, Patrick Heron and others. Materials. Please bring any of the following: 1. Oil paints (traditional or watermixable) or acrylics. 2. Canvas or canvas paper, or mixed media all purpose paper 3. Brushes - bring any you have and use. Advice on materials will be given throughout the course.
